Just North of the 45th
Salmon is Located Just North of the 45th Parallel
You are probably wondering what Just North of the 45th means. Silver Cloud’s home base is in Salmon, Idaho, just north of the 45th parallel and halfway between the equator and the North Pole.
The temperature swing goes from about 20+ below in the winter to over 100 degrees in the summer. Our winters last from December to March with at least one good thaw and one deep freeze in that time. Salmon does not get as much snow as you would imagine since it is located in high desert, the average is about 27″ per winter. The surrounding mountains get a lot more snowfall and in a good winter, the powder skiing at Lost Trail Powder Mountain (45 miles north) can be phenomenal.
Summer lasts from June through September, there is usually a week of 100+ temps that make you wish you were on the Salmon River with a cool drink in hand!
Locals like to say that if you want the weather to change, wait 15 minutes…
