River Trip Itinerary
Our itinerary is purposefully designed to make the most of your time on the Salmon River.
Night 0: The night before your launch, meet your trip leader for a pre-trip briefing at 7:00pm at the Best Western Plus McCall Lodge & Suites in McCall, Idaho. This is a great option for a hotel before/after your trip.
Day 1: Fly from McCall to Salmon, Idaho. Load onto the bus and drive to the edge of the Frank Church Wilderness (about a two-hour drive), stopping at the general store in North Fork (for last minute supplies) before continuing to the Corn Creek put-in, where the team of guides will be waiting with oar boats, paddle rafts, and inflatable kayaks. After being oriented to gear, packing your dry bag for the trip, and a final discussion about risk management, you will launch and begin the journey downstream, enjoying moderate rapids such as “Kill um,” “Rainier” and “Devil’s Tooth.”
Days 2, 3, 4: Each morning, sip coffee or tea on the beach while a healthy, filling breakfast is prepared by your guides. After the boats are loaded with all personal and group gear, you’ll move downstream and tackle fun whitewater rapids, with peaceful pools in between which offer chances to spot wildlife and enjoy the wilderness views. Exciting rapids like “Salmon Falls,” “Big Mallard,” and “Elk Horn” punctuate the time on the water. Each day, besides rafting, there are often chances for excursions to homestead cabins, soaks in hot springs, or short hikes. Once at camp each afternoon, enjoy camp games like bocce ball, swim in an eddy, or settle in with a good book. Guides will prepare a delicious dinner, and then it is common to swap stories around the campfire while waiting for dessert to finish baking in the Dutch oven.
Day 5: On your final day, you will tackle two of the largest rapids on the trip: “Chittam” and “Vinegar Creek.” Then, enjoy a final river lunch at the take-out before a scenic bus ride to the resort town of McCall, Idaho.
Guests provide their own transportation to McCall, Idaho. We will reserve a space for each guest on a flight from McCall to Salmon. The guests will fly to Salmon, Idaho on the morning of their launch date. At the end of the raft trip, we drop guests off at their vehicle in McCall. We are happy to work through any logistics with you. Please don’t hesitate to call (208)-756-6215.
