About Us

Meet Our Crew

Confluences River Expeditions takes pride in having the best crew on the Salmon River. As a group and as individuals, our guides are our most important asset. Many have been with Confluences for many years. All are talented professionals who will entertain and amaze you with their skills, both on the water and off. They make each trip unique by giving interpretive talks about Idaho history, native cultures, wildlife, astronomy, Lewis and Clark in Idaho, fly fishing and many other topics. Our crew’s dedication and professionalism sets us apart from all other outfitters on the Salmon. Come see why they are the best crew on the Salmon River.

Sean and Kristin Bierle

Managers and Guides

Sean and Kristin Bierle have lived all over the world and love to travel. They have been working in education and the outdoor industry since 2000, leading and teaching in Idaho, California, North Carolina, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Chile. They met on the banks of Idaho’s famous rivers. Sean and Kristin co-founded and continue to head a non-profit leadership school, Alzar School. Kristin has served on the Board of Directors for Idaho Rivers United. Sean, Kristin, and their young children, Oscar and Ana, enjoy life in Chile and Idaho exploring the mountains and rivers that surround them.

Chris Michael

Guide

Chris was born and raised in southwestern Idaho, where he learned the value of exploring wild places while in high school (he studied at Alzar School during his junior year). He was ultimately drawn to Montana State University, where he graduated with academic achievement from the Honors College with a BS in Health and Human Performance and a minor in Hispanic Studies. Now, he’s joining us for select trips between nursing school! When he wasn’t in the classroom, Chris enjoyed the forests and rivers around Bozeman, worked as a ski instructor at Brundage Mountain and raft guide on Idaho’s Payette River and Salmon River. In his free time, Chris enjoys mountain biking, skiing, whitewater kayaking, cribbage, and reading novels.

Hallie Knight

Guide

Hallie was raised in Utah where she learned to fall in love with the outdoors through skiing, climbing, scuba diving and exploring as much as possible. She was introduced to the beautiful rivers of Idaho right out of high school where she has been professionally guiding ever since. Hallie currently attends Brigham Young University in Utah and is pursuing a degree in Graphic Design. The beautiful outdoors inspire her creativity and her passions. You can always find her on the slopes, the river, the ocean, or drawing! Hallie is excited to continue rafting and introduce you to the beauty the Salmon River has to offer!

Lee Neale

Guide

Lee has a deep love and respect for adventure, travel and education that began when he was very young and has grown into a voracious appetite for new experiences, environments, and skills. In his early 20’s Lee began pursuing a variety of outdoor adventure sports that brought him to places around the globe, convincing him of the transformational power of self-supported wilderness based expeditions. He has developed a passion for working with young adults and adolescents through a variety of roles over the past twelve years (including high school History Teacher, Outdoor Instructor, EMT, Director of Gap Programs, and as a Guide for rafting, trekking, climbing, kayaking and cycling trips). In his personal life, Lee continues to find inspiration through international travel, playing guitar, and outdoor adventure.

Mike Perez

Guide

Mike is the Director of Expeditions and Risk Management for Alzar School and guides a handful of trips a year for Confluences. Besides working as a river guide in Oregon, California and Idaho, Mike was a research assistant, financial aid counselor for NOLS, a gap year instructor, outdoor science school instructor, and he continues to enjoy wearing many hats. On his time off you’ll likely find Mike out kayaking, mountain biking, skiing, rock climbing, or cooking meals for friends. He has too many specialty dishes to name just one!

Hannah Ryan

Guide

Hannah was born and raised in Idaho, but called the Colorado Plateau home for a decade. After getting eddied out in Taos, NM for a good chunk of that time, she returned to her home mountains and rivers to be closer to family. She has a heart for adventure and can be found building hiking trails, running rivers, making art and exploring new places with her pup, Chinle. Hannah draws a lot of her passion and inspiration from spending time in nature and on the road, sharing memorable experiences in scenic places with new and old friends.

Brant Smith

Guide

Brant teaches geometry, pre-calculus, and calculus at the Alzar School. Prior to joining the Alzar School full time, he worked to facilitate river trips for the school’s summer programming in Idaho and California. Before that, Brant worked as a commercial raft guide in Colorado in addition to working as a climbing, skiing, kayaking, and backpacking instructor for the University of Colorado. During his time at CU Boulder, Brant helped with the design and instruction of Intro to Outdoor Leadership course, in addition to pursuing courses in education, math, and other fields of study. In his off time, he can be found skiing, climbing, kayaking, playing chess, and hanging out with his dog Obi.

Scout Sorcic

Logistics Manager and Guide

Scout comes to Idaho from Colorado, where she grew up in Leadville. After attending college, Scout went on to work for Outward Bound in Utah, OARS in Oregon, and across North America as a wilderness medicine instructor with Desert Mountain Medicine. Scout is a passionate rafter, hiker and cookie baker.

Bohdi Venery

Guide

Growing up in Whitefish, MT, Bohdi got his start guiding rivers through Glacier National Park. He came to the Salmon River to find big waves and an awesome crew to join. He’s been a leader on the team ever since! He often winters in Maui, but can also be found on the slopes in Montana too. Bodhi's the guide that kids will flock to for slip-and-slide time on the beach.

Mark Beaver

Customer Service Manager

As a Idaho native, Mark grew up with the slopes, trails, and rivers of the Salmon River Mountains as a playground and developed a deep love and connection for the land and people of the Mountain West. This confluence of interests eventually led Mark to pursue graduate studies in Conservation Social Science. He has since worked for environmental and outdoor education non-profits, state and federal resource agencies, and in higher education. Though Mark spends the majority of his time with his wife introducing their two young boys to the mountain playground, he still loves connecting people to our incredible outdoor resources, hopefully helping to plant a seed that keeps them coming back and caring for our wild spaces.
