Our Crew

Confluences River Expeditions takes pride in having the best crew on the Salmon River.  As a group and as individuals, our guides are our most important asset.  Many have been with Confluences for many years.  All are talented professionals who will entertain and amaze you with their skills, both on the water and off. They make each trip unique by giving interpretive talks about Idaho history, native cultures, wildlife, astronomy, Lewis and Clark in Idaho, fly fishing and many other topics.  Our crew’s dedication and professionalism sets us apart from all other outfitters on the Salmon. Come see why they are the best crew on the Salmon River.

I LOVE that you are so dedicated to the experience for others, and most of all loved that you were a family team for the most part! “

Jake Miczulski, Associate Manager and Guide

A native Idahoan, Jake is passionate about the people and places that make Idaho such a unique place to live. Ever since his younger days of bad haircuts and high-mileage minivans, Jake has been roaming this state high and low, appreciating the many faces of Idaho. His favorite place to share with people is the Salmon River, where he worked as a guide for seven years, leading multi-day, interpretive wilderness expeditions. In 2015, Jake earned his Bachelor’s in Fire Ecology and Management at the University of Idaho, gaining academic and practical knowledge on the unique role that fire plays in Western ecosystems. In 2018, Jake furthered his knowledge of Western ecosystems, while also honing his teaching skills, by earning his Master’s in Natural Resources from the McCall Outdoor Science School. Jake can’t wait to share his passions for ecosystems and “river-ing” with the guests of Confluences River Expeditions. You can reach Jake at jake@confluencesriverexpeditions.com.

Justin Kleberg

Learning the basics of river swimming and kayaking on North Carolina’s Haw River, Justin later attended Western Carolina University to study Outdoor Education and Instruction.  He was a video kayaker in West Virginia, a competitive judge for USA Freestyle Kayaking, and a field faculty for NOLS River and Winter Programs in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and India.  Having led outdoor expeditions since 2012, Justin is also currently Director of Expeditions and Risk Management at Alzar School, and holds certifications as a WEMT, ACA Swiftwater Rescue Instructor + Kayaking Instructor, NOLS Pro Avalanche 2, and LNT Master Educator. He has paddled in Costa Rica, Argentina, Chile, India, and Nepal and will always be excited to introduce others to outdoor recreation.

Chris Michael

Chris was born and raised in southwestern Idaho, where he learned the value of exploring wild places while in high school (he studied at Alzar School during his junior year). He was ultimately drawn to Montana State University, where he graduated with academic achievement from the Honors College with a BS in Health and Human Performance and a minor in Hispanic Studies. When he wasn’t in the classroom, Chris enjoyed the forests and rivers around Bozeman, worked as a ski instructor at Brundage Mountain and raft guide on Idaho’s Payette River and Salmon River.  In his free time, Chris enjoys mountain biking, skiing, whitewater kayaking, cribbage, and reading novels. Chris obtained his first Swiftwater Rescue Technician certification in 2015 and his Wilderness First Responder in 2019.

Hannah Ryan

Hannah was born and raised in Idaho, but called the Colorado Plateau home for a decade. After getting eddied out in Taos, NM for a good chunk of that time, she returned to her home mountains and rivers to be closer to family. She has a heart for adventure and can be found building hiking trails, running rivers, making art and exploring new places with her pup, Chinle. Hannah draws a lot of her passion and inspiration from spending time in nature and on the road, sharing memorable experiences in scenic places with new and old friends.
